About James

Although I have been an drumline/percussion arranger and instructor for 9 years, I am proudest of my extensive tenures with these schools:

• Sycamore HS (IL) Spartan Marching Band, 7 seasons and counting
• Northern Illinois University Huskie Marching Band, 4 seasons
• Eden Prairis HS (MN) Eagle Marching Band, 3 seasons

My formal percussion education came from Northern Illinois University and the Eden Prairie (MN) public schools. I gained a lot of experience as a member of Pioneer Drum & Bugle Corps, LEAP Indoor Percussion, and the Greater Twin Cities Youth Symphonies.

Thanks to this experience, I have been a Scholastic Educator Program member of the Vic Firth Education Team since May of 2004.

I currently live in Aberdeen, South Dakota, with my wife, Jackie, and our dog, Annie. I operate James Voss Grumish Percussion part-time as a federal and state registered sole proprietorship.
